FOREST VISION DEVELOPMENT

Developments and enhancements (Please e-mail any comments or suggestions for new or urgent developments to: forestvision@mtsl.co.nz) Approx. Completion Date
Short Term
Extending calculations to include automatic iteration: Extension of user-defined equations and calculated report fields to include capabililty to automatically refer to (and summarize) numeric fields in data nodes above and below the selected data node. Completed
Contractor Payment Tracking: Extending ForestVision contractor (and contractor payment) tracking and reporting to requirements specified by current users, including defining new reports for payment and contract completion tracking. Completed

User Security: Upgrading existing user security profiles to include individual security settings that will allow the administrator to customize user access and actions within specific ForestVision fields.

Completed
New reporting capabilities: Refinement of current user-defined (and pre-defined) reporting capabilities to enhance report alignment and upgrading automatic report maps (higher detail). Define new (and upgrade old) reports including the new capabilities, and make the new reports available (download from this site). Completed
Support for import data formats: Upgrading of TFM2 and FMS import routines to include resolving user-definable elements 'patches' within the TFM2 database. Part Completed
Save Anywhere: The database access routines should be extended to allow users to switch to any kind of database server, including Oracle / Sybase / Interbase and non-server database types like Paradox / Access / Dbase. Current functionality will be reused to allow multiple database sets to be stored in single databases. 10 Feb 2001
Extending set of tutorials: Completing 34 tutorials covering introduction to all main parts of ForestVision, including some dealing with more advanced concepts. 15 Feb 2000
Support for individual clients/business practices/functions through integrated scripting: Integrated scripting (Visual Basic, C++, Pascal, Perl) will allow MTS to quickly distribute scripts customized for any business, or general scripts distributed to all clients. Scripts will perform anything from simple tasks like automatically calculating and verifying operational assessment data, to very complex tasks like applying management schedules and optimizing harvest operations. Additionally, the script editor will be accessible for Enterprise Edition version clients to allow them to write their own scripts for any purpose. The powerfull nature of scripts requires scripts to be included in users' security profiles, allowing the adminstrator to make scripts available (or not) for each individual user. 31 Jan 2001
Log Tracking: Extending ForestVision log tracking and reporting to requirements specified by current users, including defining new reports and tools to facilitate easy and flexible tracking of log sales. 15 Mar 2001

Medium Term
Growth and Yield Modeling: Applying simple user-definable (and pre-defined) growth models to existing stands (and forests) to determine future volume and grade yields. Yield modeling will also be available through report elements. Apr 2001

Integrated analysis and reporting on MARVL data: MARVL data can currently be included as assessment data within ForestVision operations. Integrated analysis capability will be developed (already started) to automatically analyze and report on MARVL data from within ForestVision (without the need to run the MARVL application).

May 2001

Long Term
Harvest and siviculture scheduling: Initial focus is to provide harvest and silviculture scheduling through automated scripts, which can be individualized by MTS for each client or by the clients themselves (Enterprise edition). The current operation Status field would assist in the scheduling routines ability to reschedule operation dates. Current (and future) reports will be used as the mechanism for analysing the applied schedules. Third quarter 2001
